} Bracelets at Nea

For 7 years (wow, that sounds crazy), I barely made any bracelets. It’s weird… Wrist wear ideas haven’t came to me naturally in the past, perhaps because I don’t really wear some myself (altho I like when I see them on other people), which makes me 1- not think about them a lot, 2- not really “get” them. What I mean by that is hard to explain… It’s as if necklaces and earrings are like a comforting and yummy homemade meal, and then as if I had to cook molecular cuisine. lol!

I have made maybe 4-5 of them over the years, but they didn’t sell or didn’t get much attention, which reinforced my “bracelet impostor” sentiment.

Last year, I started to warm up to the idea tho, after a couple of craftshow clients pointed out the lack of, and after having one very strong bracelet idea. ONE. haha! This one:

That little silver plated chevron SCREAMED bracelet to me, so I put my resistant little ass aside (lol) and went for it. What did I know, at the next PucesPop, the 5 I had  sold out before the end of the Saturday, and I was making 10 more that night for the last day of the show. They didn’t all sell (let’s not get carried away haha), but clearly my ONE bracelet was a hit!

What followed was a semi-unblock of my bracelet strike! I won’t lie, it’s still a little hard for me to create them. I always wonder about length, how they “fall”, how they move, how how how… But, working on it! ;)

Talking about length, if ever you want to share your “ideal bracelet length” with me, please go ahead in the comments, that would be insightful! At shows and with online sales, I can adjust for you, but for bricks&mortar shops, I have difficulty figuring out what’s a “good general size” to make it accessible to as many people as possible, since I am not there live to adjust to someone’s liking.

} End of 2013 Nea Recap

I’ve been on a really long blogging hiatus (besides last week’s post), right!? I’ve been having trouble redefining blogging for myself, since the previous way doesn’t seem to get my blood pumping of excitement anymore (not as much anyway). That’s without mentioning that Holiday season is a totally cra-zay time where blogging falls pretty far in the priority list…

That said, I also managed to create a lot of new items at the end of 2013, right before everything went haywire. lol!

} Olive Thomas

I was starting to wonder why so many handmade shoes came from Israel. Turns out, there is a shoe making and designing school there! How awesome!

Which brings me to Olive Thomas, a young lady from there. Printed shoes. HECK YEAH!! I also adore her classic shapes with a unique twist, and great color/leather combo choices, all available between sizes 5 to 10.5.

Gotta love it, right!? :)

Obviously, Atem bags are just gorgeous and seem really sturdy for everyday use.

But what struck me the most is their photography (by Patrick Desbrosses). How unusual! A little quirkiness paired with bright lighting and simple displays, it’s sure to intrigue and catch anyone’s attention!

Ha, this is truly photography that complements perfectly the brand! Fits seamlessly with Atem‘s products. And I’m kinda jealous, too. lol

} New Nea Stuff!

I went to NYC last month, with my best friend Sandra who was back home a little via Australia. I had never gone to NYC before, and obviously, you can’t see/do EVERYTHING in 4 days (especially in winter (we got 2 gorgeous days and 2 freezing/super windy days, not so bad!)), but a couple of things were non-negociables, including a little bit of supplies shopping. You get to bring back a whopping $800 of stuff without taxes if you cross the border for more than 2 days, it was to take advantage of, without going crazy of course! ;)

And so on the last day, before taking my bus that same night, I sent my lovely friend away to walk around and shop the fashion district, while I took some Nea time: a 2 hour shopping frenzy in a secret-heaven-on-earth place, digging thru PILES AND PILES of boxes of vintage stock…

I ended up coming out of there with 20 pounds (the stuff was sold per pound, I’m not exaggerating here!) of metal pieces. Imagine me at US/Canada customs, half asleep at 3:30am, getting out of the bus and dragging my heavy supplies groceries bag (plus my handbag, plus my other gym bag luggage), one non-steady step at the time… It was totally ridiculous looking, but oh well. lol! (Yes, I need to buy a rolling luggage, I know.)

I since started using those, as you can see from some of these 5 new items I added to my Etsy shop recently.

And, so much more is to be used soon, they all get my blood up and pumping with inspiration, so stay tuned! :D

} Handarbete

I’ve been exploring some weaving in the past week! But you’ll have to be patient before seeing something concrete (unless you follow me on Instagram, then you might have already seen some teasers go by). I’ve had my vintage table weaver (Heddle loom) for like 5 years, just didn’t actually try it much before now.

Weaving definitely requires much patience, and also some planning beforehand, which makes me think of it a lot like my cross-stitch process, altho is it seen as a skill belonging in the knitting family.

That said, I’ve also been looking around to see other people’s skills in the matter, hence how I found out Handarbete (meaning “handicraft” in Swedish, love the name!). Wow.

Satoko Pettersson‘s skills and madly consistent and beautiful, and her color combinations are flawless. Her simple yet impactful patterns are also just a joy to look at. Totally yearning for a scarf now! :)
